Winsor & Newton, watercolor of fame
It was in 1832 that the chemist William Winsor and the artist Henry Newton brought together the knowledge to offer an unprecedented choice of color , clarity and permanence. They first developed watercolors, then other innovations, such as white watercolors and the tin tube.
The colors Winsor & Newton are known and distributed worldwide. Their color range extends to acrylics, quick-drying oils, water-dilutable oils.
What is watercolor?
Watercolor is water-based painting. Watercolors consist of 3 components:
- The pigment: it will give color to your paint
- The binder: it will bind the different components together
- The additive: it makes it easier to apply and keep the watercolour.
The composition of watercolor in pans or in tubes is practically the same. With the exception that the watercolor in a tube can contain more honey so that the product remains plastic longer. The pigments are identical.
The watercolors are packaged in several forms:in a tube or in a bucket.
The tubes, pasty colors and the buckets, dry colors.
Watercolor work is always done on paper intended for this purpose. The grain of the paper can be satin, fine or cloth.
Watercolor works with water. There are two ways to work with watercolour, the so-called "dry" method by working directly on your dry paper by applying your color to the paper, or the "wet" method, completely moistening your support.
